Earth Day Live Event
Join Team Zero Scientist Tucker Ely at The Plant Mill in Tempe, AZ on Tuesday April 22nd, 2025 from 10am to 6pm.
Tucker will be posted up in front of a large screen, visualizing near-real time global climate data while spouting facts, opinions, hopes and fears, and taking questions about this island we call home.
He might have answers, he might not. He'll try really really hard to keep wild speculation to a minimum. He will be sober, so this shouldn't be too difficult.
Earth is an island people!
Find out how researchers 'see' the Earth in all of its infinite scale and complexity. How can we 'see' plants breath from space? What planetary-scale forces shape regional climates? And how can we 'see' this with satellite imagery

ARPA-E Award
39 Alpha Research has been awarded a cooperative agreement by the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) program to explore the stimulated production of geologic hydrogen.
Geologic hydrogen is hydrogen gas (H2) that is produced through reactions between water and rock in Earth’s subsurface. H2 is a clean energy source that produces no carbon when burned or used in a fuel cell, and so represents a promising target for the United States’ decarbonization efforts.
39 Alpha’s Team 0 will leverage it’s expertise in high-throughput computation and geochemistry provide large-scale, high-resolution modeling support to other ARPA-E funded teams in an effort to maximize the production of H2 through subsurface water-rock interactions.

Beer with scientists
39 Alpha Research held our first Beer with Scientists fundraiser at Goldwater Brewing Co. on January 16th, 2025. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our nonprofit!
Our inaugural research group, Team Zero, highlighted two of their recent projects on stimulated geologic hydrogen and the carbonate state space. We were accompanied by guest scientists of varying disciplines -from Clinical Psychology and social science to GeoBiochemistry and beyond- to share insights and stories, drink beer, debate weighty things, and really just get people talking about science.
